Belize Belize / is the largest city in Belize and was the former capital of the British province of Honduras. According to the 2010 census, the city has a population of 57,169 people spread over 16,162 families. It is located at the mouth of the Hulver Valley, one of the tributaries of the Belize River Britain granted Honduras colony self-rule in 1964, and George Price, a member of the United People's Party, became prime minister. The name of the colony changed, and it became Belize in 1973, and it gained independence from Britain on September 21, 1981.
