Skunks are mammals known for their ability to spray a strong-smelling liquid. There are different types of skunks that differ in appearance from black and white to brown or cream in color. Skunks vary in size from 40-94 cm and weight from about 1.1 lb (0.50 kg). Some spotted skunks reach 18 lb (8.2 kg)
Although the most common fur color is black and white, some skunks are brown or gray and a few are cream-coloured. All skunks are striped, even from birth. They may have one thick stripe across the back and tail, and two thinner stripes, or a series of white spots and discontinuous stripes. Some also have stripes on their legs

Skunks are omnivorous, eating both plant and animal matter and changing their diets with the seasons. They eat insects, grubs, earthworms, small rodents, lizards, salamanders, frogs, snakes, birds, moles and eggs. They also commonly eat berries, roots, leaves, herbs, fungi, and nuts                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         In settled areas, skunks also seek out scavenging from humans, and may eat the carcasses of birds, rodents, cats or other animals, and skunks usually dig holes in lawns in search of grubs and worms

Skunks are one of the main predators of honey bees, relying on their thick fur to protect them from stings, and skunks are crepuscular animals, although in cooler parts, they may gather in communal dens for warmth, during the day sheltering in burrows that can be excavated with their powerful claws                                                                                                                                                                                           Although skunks have excellent senses of smell and hearing, they have poor eyesight, being unable to see objects more than about 3 meters (10 ft) away, making them vulnerable to death from traffic. Their lifespan in the wild can be up to seven years, in families, they may live for up to 10 years
