             El Alamein is a city in Matrouh Governorate, located east of Marsa Matrouh and west of Alexandria. Its population is approximately 10,922. The city is divided into three main areas: El Alamein, Sidi Abdel Rahman Village, and Tel El Eis Village. The Battle of El Alamein, one of the most famous battles of World War II between the Allied and Axis powers, took place there, in which the German Afrika Korps was defeated. The city includes cemeteries, memorials, and a museum commemorating the victims of that battle of various nationalities. The city's economy depends mainly on its natural resources, such as petroleum, which is being explored by several Egyptian companies, and tourist areas, which include a number of luxurious tourist villages, such as Porto Marina and Marassi in Sidi Abdel Rahman

        The city is located east of Marsa Matrouh and west of Alexandria. It is bordered to the north by the Alexandria-Matrouh Desert Road from the 103.18 km mark to the 106.18 km mark east of Alexandria, to the south by the railway line, to the east by Wadi El Natrun Road, and to the west by the village of Tel El Eis. The city is inhabited by more than 10,922 people, and is divided into three main areas: El Alamein Center, Sidi Abdel Rahman Village, and Tel El Eis. The First Battle of El Alamein, or the Battle of Alam Halfa, was one of the battles of World War II, which took place in the city of El Alamein between the Allied powers represented by the British Eighth Army under the command of Montgomery, and the Axis powers represented by the African Corps, composed of German and Italian forces under the command of Rommel, during the period from August 31 to September 7, 1942. It ended with the victory of the British Eighth Army under the command of Montgomery and the withdrawal of the African Corps forces, which suffered from a shortage of supplies and the continued British bombardment with air and artillery fire, which led to its failure to reach the Suez Canal in what was known as the Six Day Race. The Battle of El Alamein, or the Second Battle of El Alamein, was the battle that took place from October 23 to November 4, 1942, during the events of World War II in the city of El Alamein between the British Eighth Army under the command of Montgomery and the African Corps under the command of Rommel. The battle ended with a British victory due to their superiority in numbers and equipment, as the British forces had amassed more than a thousand tanks, which is double the number of German tanks, and 450 cannons, in addition to the air superiority of British bombers, while the German forces lacked adequate air cover and suffered from the obsolescence of their artillery, in addition to the weakness of supplies
