- Saddam was born in the village of Awja, 23 km from the city of Tikrit, northwest of Baghdad.

Saddam's news remained unknown in the first weeks after Baghdad fell to the US occupation forces. It was put on the wanted list. The sons of Uday and Qusay were killed on July 23, 2003. Saddam Hussein was then arrested and tried in a case that had nothing to do with what the Americans said before the invasion of Iraq.
