The cockroach is an insect of the order of cockroaches that also contains the termite. There are about 4,600 species of cockroach, of which only 30 species feed on human food and only 4 species are known to be a pest.

Oriental cockroaches are relatively slow compared to other species, and are often called "water bugs"; It prefers dark, damp places. These cockroaches are found near decaying organic matter, as well as in sewers, drains, damp basements, balconies, and other damp places. They can also be found among weeds and young plants, under the remains of foliage and pieces of wood covering the soil, and in other damp places. These cockroaches are considered household pests in the United States in sectors of the Northwest, Midwest, and Western United States

Cockroaches need a hiding place in order to grow and multiply. It prefers warm places and, if possible, relatively high humidity, and also needs a source of food or liquids. The optimum temperature for oriental crickets is between 20°C (68°F) and 29°C (84°F). The female oriental cockroach has nonfunctional ventral coverings (small front wings), while the male has longer ventral coverings. Cockroaches are mainly nocturnal creatures. Oriental cockroaches may be elusive, for when we inspect their hideouts during the day, we may not find a trace of their presence

Egg containers indicate the presence of cockroaches. They are “casings” containing up to sixteen eggs, and this is the number of eggs for oriental cockroaches. Females lay these containers, and the eggs hatch on their own after about two months. Oriental cockroaches are more difficult to get rid of than other cockroaches. Although adults are easily killed using pesticides, the pesticides evaporate, so that, after two months, the females are able to hatch new nymphs.
