 lizards

Lizards / or lizards are a suborder of reptiles belonging to the phylum Squamous lizards of the Phylum Chordata, and they are reptiles closely related to snakes. Some of them, like snakes, have no legs, while some of them resemble snakes to some extent, but they have legs. As for large lizards, they are more similar to crocodiles

Lizards have less important feeding methods than snakes, but unlike snakes some feed on plants rather than animals. Marine iguanas in the famous Galapagos Islands, located in the Pacific Ocean near the coast of Ecuador, feed on marine algae that grow on rocks where they collect when low tide occurs. And feed hundreds of species of lizards, insects and small animals

And the majority of lizards do not limit their food to one type without the other. Some Australian skink species eat a varied diet of snails, worms and plant seeds. Some lizards, such as the African chameleon, depend on hunting insects with their tongue covered with a thick mucous layer, by throwing it a distance towards the insect to stick to its mucous layer. Some types of lizards grab their prey with their jaws and swallow it directly when they stop resisting

When a lizard is caught by its tail, it wrestles and voluntarily separates from its tail by breaking it at the level of a weak area. The phenomenon of self-amputation is usually followed by a one-time regeneration process. Lizards have short legs attached to the sides of the body and cannot support the animal that touches the ground. Each one ends with five separate long fingers bearing sharp claws very useful for attachment. The movement of the lizard is in the form of ripples that it performs with the help of its legs, abdomen and tail

The lizard is a carnivorous sniper: it feeds on insects, spiders, and worms. The lizard differs from the frog in that it has lung respiration only because it breathes air throughout its life. In the spring after mating, the female lays five to ten eggs in a hole that she herself digs in the ground and then seals. Animal wall lizard lays eggs. Eggs do not have a hard shell but are surrounded by a paper-like membrane. The female does not lie on the eggs. It is the summer heat that makes it hatch in six to eight weeks. Since emerging from the eggs, the young lizard hunts insects to feed on. Some types of lizards incubate eggs inside

Lizards defend themselves in various different ways, as some lizards deceive, such as some snakes, to defend themselves. Many of them amputate their tail if attacked, and that amputated tail continues to wiggle for a period after its amputation, which preoccupies the predator attacking it or any other enemy. For a while, she could escape

Among the common methods of deception for self-defense, which lizards use, is swelling, hissing, and striking with the tail. Like the hiss of snakes, it appears many times larger than it is. In addition, it acquires a fierce, frightening appearance, unlike its normal condition, while the length of the largest of these lizards is only about 80 cm. The Australian blue-tongued skunk scares its predatory enemies by showing its bright blue tongue

Not all lizards are deception fighters. Urals and their relatives use their huge jaws to bite, and their powerful tails to beat hard, but unlike snakes, very few lizards are venomous. There are only two types of poisonous lizards: the helium, a lizard found in the southwestern United States and northern Mexico, and its close relative, the Mexican spiked lizard

The horned desert lizards have a strange property of self-defense, as they can throw a thin stream of blood from their eyes for a distance of about a meter when attacked, and the sharp thorns on their head and back give them more protection. Many people call lizards equipped with these horns toads, due to the similarity of their flattened bodies with the bodies of toads

African chameleons are famous for changing their color according to the color of the surrounding environment, and many lizards have that same characteristic that many people consider as a means of self-defense, but it is not used for that at all times, as some desert lizards use the property of changing color to give their body a dark color that enables them to absorb more As much heat as possible from the sun’s rays, especially in the early morning, in order to quickly raise her body temperature so that she can be active and move in search of food before the weather gets hot in the middle of the day

In general, the majority of desert lizards have a pale color, while the majority of lizards that live in forests are dark in color. The different types of lizards are distinguished by their contrasting color combinations of green, red, gray, brown, white and black
