Yemen is one of the oldest centers of civilization in the ancient world. It is not known exactly when the history of ancient Yemen began, but some inscriptions of Mesopotamian civilization suggest that it began a long time ago. For example, Sheba is mentioned in a Sumerian text dating from around 2500 BC, that is, since the middle of the third millennium BC. The inscriptions found in Yemen revealed the history of ancient Yemen dating back to the late second millennium BC. One of the most important and famous kingdoms of ancient Yemen is the Kingdom of Sheba, Ma'in, Qutban, Hadhramaut and Himyar.The Arabian Peninsula, called the Roman name Happy Arab. Several medieval states, such as the Ziadiyya, the Yafari state, the Zaydi Imamate, and the Taheri state, the most powerful of which were the apostolic state. The so-called northern Yemen became independent from the Ottoman Empire in 1918, and the Mutawakkilite Kingdom of Yemen was overthrown in 1962 and the establishment of the Arab Republic of Yemen. Yemen's economy relies on limited oil and gas resources that have not been well exploited and this sector, although it constitutes the largest proportion of GDP, remains underdeveloped. The country is experiencing difficult political and economic conditions as a result of corruption and armed conflicts that impede development. Yemen is a developing country and among the least developed countries and ranked eighth in the list of the most vulnerable countries in the world in 2014.

Like other Arab countries, Yemen was disappointed and popular protests erupted demanding the overthrow of Ali Abdullah Saleh's regime in 2011, which has ruled Yemen since 1978. The regime was described as a "feudalism that developed into a mixture of kleptocracy and plutocracy." Saudi Arabia has put forward an initiative to maintain its influence through figures from that regime. , Approved by the international community to continue counter-terrorism operations. President Saleh stepped down and 500 of his aides were immune from prosecution through the House of Representatives. His deputy, Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, was elected in the election of one candidate on 21 February 2012 to head a two-year transition. The sessions of the Yemen National Dialogue were held on March 18, 2013 and concluded with the signing of the Comprehensive National Dialogue document.


Yemen consists of five geographical regions:


Coastal Plain: This region extends from Tihama passing through the country's southern coasts in Aden, Hadramout and Mahra. This region is interspersed with several hills and mountains and includes the plains of Tihama, Abyan, Mayfa'a and the eastern coastal plain in Al-Mahra governorate.

Mountain Highlands: Yemen's largest geographical region, extending from the far north-western border to the southeast. The mountains in this region are the highest in the Arabian Peninsula at a rate of 2000 m and some peaks 3500 m.

Mountain Basins: This region is characterized by basins and mountain plains in the highlands and most of them are located in the eastern side of the region, where the water coming from the far north to the far south and cross at the bottom of Yarim, Dhamar, crossing and basin Sana'a, Amran and Saada.

Highland region: Located to the east and north of the mountainous region and parallel to it, but widen further towards the Empty Quarter and the nature of this region rocky desert abandoned by some valleys and divided into two parts of the western plateau and the highest altitude of about 1300 m and the eastern plateau of the Hadramaut plateau in turn divided into northern and southern Because of the valley of Hadramout that separates them.

Desert Territory: A sandy region with almost no vegetation except rainwater and includes parts of the Empty Quarter desert. The surface height ranged from 500-1000 m above sea level.
