The Prophet Jonah, or as it was called in the Arabic language and the Qur'an Yunus, is one of the important prophets in Islam because he was a prophet sent by God to receive a message to the believers. It is also called in the name of Dhu al-Nun, and al-Nun is: the whale, and it is also said to him: the owner of the whale, and his name: “Yunus bin Matta.” Ibn Al-Atheer stated: “Matta” is the name of his mother, and that the prophets did not attribute any of them to his mother except Yunus and Isa Ibn Mariam.

All Muslims believe in his prophethood and all the prophets that God mentioned in the Qur’an. The mention of Yunus came in several places of the Qur’an, among which are in a surah mentioned in his name which is: Surah Yunus.

Islamic tradition states that Yunus came from the tribe of Benjamin, and Yunus is the only of the twelve young prophets mentioned by name in the Qur'an.

The Qur'anic narration of Yunus's story has some similarities as well as fundamental differences with the story in the Bible. Yunus is described by the Qur’an as a righteous preacher of a message he received from God, who one day fled his mission because of its overwhelming difficulty. And the Qur’an states that Yunus fled on a ship, and he asked her family to ride him with them, so they were tagged with good in it and they rode him. And when they mediated the sea, he agitated and disturbed them, and they said: We have a sin.

They shared among themselves that the one who fell upon the arrow threw him into the sea, and the arrow fell on Yunus. They asked him about his affairs and they were amazed at his matter, which is the righteous piety. Then he told them his story, and he indicated to them that they should throw him in the right hand, so that God’s wrath would dwell on them, so they cast him. His adherence to God’s command was a great whale, and he walked through it in darkness, in God’s preservation and discipline, and the miracle took place.

When Yunus, peace be upon him, departed from Nineveh, he came upon a people and boarded their ship with them, so when all of them reached the sea, the ship swayed, was agitated and shook, and they did not find a way to salvation until they were thrown into the sea to reduce pregnancy, so they voted for those who cast themselves In the sea, so the arrow of Yunus, peace be upon him, came out.

When they sought good and righteousness, they did not prefer to throw himself into the sea, and they returned the lot three times, and the arrow of Yunus - peace be upon him - was brought out every time. Yunus, peace be upon him, did not find anything except to throw himself into the sea, and he thought that God - the Most High - It will save him from drowning. Indeed, a whale sent by God Almighty came to him and reached him.

When Yunus, peace be upon him, became in the belly of the whale, he thought that he had died, but he moved his hands and legs, and moved, and he worshiped God - the Almighty - thanking him for having saved and saved him, and no hand or man was broken for him, and he did not harm him, and he remained in the belly The whale had three days, and he heard strange sounds that he did not understand, so God Almighty revealed to him that it praises the creatures of the sea.

So he accepted, praising God Almighty, saying: (There is no god but you, your glory be to you that I was among the unjust), then after that God Almighty commanded the whale and tossed it on the dry land, and a gourd tree was planted on it; .

Yunus - peace be upon him - then returned to Nineveh, where his people were, and found them believers in God Almighty - united, and he stayed with them from time to time, and they are in good condition and met, where God Almighty said: (And we sent Him to a hundred thousand or increase in * Then, when they returned to their delusion and their disbelief again, the punishment of God Almighty came down to them, so he took them all, destroyed their city, and became a lesson for those behind them, and it was said after that in the death of Yunus - upon him be peace - that he was buried before the coast of Sidon.

It was said in the lineage of Yunus, peace be upon him: It is Yunus bin Matta, then his lineage relates to the descendants of Benjamin, the brother of Joseph, peace be upon him. Yunus - peace be upon him - was sent to Nineveh, in Iraq, to ​​a people that spread polytheism among them; they worshiped idols, so Yunus revealed to them and led them to worship God alone has no partner, except that they lied to him, and made atonement for his message.

They insisted on worshiping their idols and their idols, and among them was an older idol called: Ishtar, and it has been said: The call of Yunus - peace be upon him - to his people lasted thirty-three years, except that he believed only two men, and that is why Yunus - peace be upon him - felt despair from his people, So he left them and left their town.

Yunus - peace be upon him - came out from Nineveh, and he thought that God - the Almighty - would not take him with this exit, because he offered everything that he should in order to invite his people, and no one responded. Their smoke clouded them, their surfaces blackened, and the people realized that the punishment of God Almighty was inevitable.

They were afraid and revered, and they looked for Yunus, peace be upon him, to guide them in the way of repentance and procuracy, but they did not find him. From dress, humble to God Almighty,

Then they approached him in this case in a great scene, asking him to be distracted from them, and repent to them, and God Almighty repented to them, and before their faith after all this disbelief and stubbornness, and Yunus - peace be upon him - did not witness this case of them.
