Elias

elias

Elias is a prophet of the prophets of the Children of Israel, and he is Elias bin Yassin, who was born Haroun, my brother Moses, peace be upon them. And he is known in the books of the Israelis as (Elijah). Al-Tabari narrated on the authority of Abdullah bin Masoud, may God be pleased with him, who said: Elias is Idris.

The Prophet Elias, peace be upon him, was mentioned in the Holy Quran in two places:

The first: It was mentioned in the hadith of the Noble Qur’an about a group of prophets, and that is the glorified saying: {Zechariah, Yahya, Jesus, and Elias each of the righteous} (Al-Anam: 85).

The second: His story was mentioned, and that is what God Almighty said: {And despair is to those who are sent * * He said to his people not to fear * Do you pray with reason and excuse the best of creators * God your Lord and the Lord of your first fathers * so lie him, for they are present * except God’s loyal servants * and he left us in others * peace be upon El Yassin * We also reward the benefactors * He is one of our believing servants} (As-Saffat: 123-132).

The story of this Prophet, peace be upon him, was that God Almighty sent him to the Children of Israel after the Prophet Ezekiel, peace be upon him, and they had worshiped an idol called him (Baal), so he invited them to God, and forbade them from worshiping others. Their king had believed in him, then turned away, and they continued to be misguided, and none of them believed in him. And God called them. So the rain locked them up for three years, then they asked him to reveal it about them, and they promised him faith in him, if they were hit by rain.

So God called them, so the sickness came to them, and they continued to disastrous what they were from disbelief, so he asked God to arrest him. He had grown up on his hands (El-Yassa ibn Akhtoub), peace be upon him, so he ordered Elias to go to such and such a place, so whatever thing he came, let him ride it, and not give him, so a horse came from fire, and he rode, and God dressed him with light, and he feathered him, and he was flying with the angels as a human king Heavenly, Earthly.

This is the story of the Prophet Elias, peace be upon him. It was narrated by Ibn Katheer on the authority of Wahb Bin Munbah in a short form, and Al-Tabari narrated it in a longer context Ibn Katheer commented on it by saying: This is how he gave it on behalf of the People of the Book, and God knows best about it.

And what should be paid attention to in this regard, is that the Almighty sent his prophet Elias to the children of Israel in a period of time, and they worshiped an idol that is said to him: {Ba’ala} - narrated from Ibn Abbas, may God be pleased with them, he said: {Ba’ala} means: Lord - so he denied them Worshiping this idol, and he called them to worship God alone as the Creator of everything, and told them that he is their Lord and the Lord of their first fathers, but they did not respond to Him as He called them to Him.

They did not criticize him for what he asked of them, so God promised them torment on the Day of Resurrection, and the Almighty did not mention them as worldly punishment. He told His Glory that those who saved them and those who were obligated to follow their prophet were excluded from the torment, and that they have a great reward from God. At the end of the story, Glory be to Him, peace be upon him, mentioned a good remembrance of what he did from the call of the children of Israel.

The story of the Prophet Elias upon him, like all other stories of the Holy Qur’an, was not mentioned by the Glorious One with the intent of news and historical narration, but rather mentioned it with the intent to consider and preach, and warn of what happened to the previous nations and people who violated the law of God, and presented the guidance that the messengers and prophets brought them. In the sentence, the following lessons are drawn from the story of Elias, peace be upon him:

First: The story of the Prophet Elias in Surat Al-Saffat was presented as part of a number of stories of the prophets, with the aim of entertaining the Messenger Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, from what he met from his people, and carried an ultimatum and a threat to the infidels of Quraish, that they punished them if they continued on their disbelief and exposed them to torture, according to what happened in the year God is in the dating of those who are mentioned. The story led the course of warning and intimidation.

Second: This story reminds people that one of the origins of religion is that they have no Lord but God, and this is the first of the principles of religion. Except later.

Third: In the story of Elias (peace be upon him), it is reported that the Messenger, peace be upon him, should only perform the message, and that it is not necessary to see the punishment of those who have been rejected by his call, nor their destruction. In this response to the polytheists who said: {When is this promise if you are honest?) (Yunus: 48), this question was unjust to them, as they asked him from the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, because he has nothing of the matter, but rather the communication and statement to the people.

And as for their reckoning and inflicting torment upon them, it is from God Almighty, that He descends on them if the time is due, and the time that he estimated, and which corresponds to his divine wisdom. If that time comes, they do not take an hour late and are not brought in. The Almighty said in this sense, addressing his Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace: {Either we show you some of those we prepare or we die for you, then we will return} (Ghafer: 77).

What is obtained from this Qur’anic story is the call to adhere to the worship of the One and Only God, and reject any other idols, be they stone or human. And warn the polytheists to God that torture will bring them inevitably, if they do not come sooner, then he certainly will give them sooner. {And God says the truth and he guides the path} (Al-Ahzab: 4)
