South Korea came under Chinese control until 1910 AD, and then Japanese colonial rule began until 1945 AD, meaning for 35 years, when Japan's control over it ended when Japan surrendered to the allies at the end of World War II. Korea was divided into two parts: North Korea, which was established on September 9 of the year 1948 AD, and South Korea, which was founded on August 15 of the same year, as the region was at the time under the influence of the Soviet Union, and the United States.

South Korea was invaded by North Korea on June 25, 1950 AD, and then negotiations began to end the war and armistice in 1951 by the United States and the United Nations, and China intervened to support North Korea in the same year. The demilitarized zone was formed after the conclusion of the peace negotiations on 27 July 1953 in the Panmunjom area.

South Korean government leadership changed after the end of the Korean War, due to its internal instability in that period. South Korea experienced economic growth when Major Park Chung received the military coup in the 1970s, but political freedoms were limited during that period.

South Korea was exposed to internal instability again during the 1980s, after Park was assassinated in 1979. Roh Tae Woo assumed power in South Korea from 1987 AD to 1992 AD, and then he took over Kim Yong Sam.
