Saint Kitts and Nevis

Saint Kitts and Nevis / or the Union of Saint Christopher and Nevis is located in the Leeward Islands and is a federal state of two islands of the West Indies. This country is the smallest sovereign country in the Americas, whether in terms of area or population. The capital and seat of the federal government is Basseterre on the island of St. Kitts

The country consists of two main islands, Saint Kitts and Nevis. The highest peak is 1,156 meters high at Mount Yamoyga. The islands are volcanic in origin with large central peaks covered by tropical rainforests. The steep slopes that lead to these peaks are mostly uninhabited. The majority of the population resides in both islands near the coast, with flat terrain. There are many rivers sloping from the mountains on both islands which provide fresh water for the residents. St. Kitts also has a small lake

Saint Kitts and Nevis has been known for a number of musical festivals, including a carnival (December 18 - January 3 in Saint Kitts). As for the last week in June, the St. Kitts Music Festival will be launched, while the Kulturama Festival will continue in Nevis from the end of July to early August

Other festivals on St. Kitts Island include the Inner City Festival in February in Moulinho. The Green Valley Festival usually takes place on a wet Monday in the village of Kayon. Esterama is around Easter in Sandy Point; TAP festival in July or August in the village of Tabernacle. And the Capester Festival on Independence Day in Saint Kitts and Nevis (19 September) in the Capester region. These festivals usually feature street parades and dances to the salsa, jazz, soka, calypso and stilban tunes

During the 1990s, Saint Kitts and Nevis recorded an annual GDP growth of 5.5%, but this growth was halted in 1998-1999 due to the devastating impact of hurricanes that struck the country. Post-hurricane reconstruction led to a resumption of economic growth in 2000 with GDP growth of 6.2%

The year 2001 started well enough, although the post-hurricane boom in the construction sector has ended and the growth rate has retreated from 2000. After September 11, the numbers of tourists declined dramatically and activities in related sectors such as road construction declined And retail sales, of course, along with tourism. As a result, GDP growth decreased significantly in 2001 and 2002. Economic activity has recovered since 2003 as a result of strong growth in tourism. Given the high level of public debt, the country needs a prudent fiscal policy to ensure sustainable economic growth

For many years, this Caribbean paradise has relied on tourism to boost its economy. One of the tourism projects driving this sector is the new Ocean Edge development project. In addition, it is also a project approved for citizenship by the St. Kitts and Nevis Union investment program and stipulated in the Nationality Act of 1984. As each investor has a minimum investment of $ 350,000 in a unit or villa in the project to apply for citizenship of St. Kitts and Nevis

The economy of Saint Kitts and Nevis is mainly based on tourism, agriculture and light industries. Sugar has been the country's main export since the 1740s, but high production costs and low global market prices have pushed the government to reduce dependence on it and diversify the agricultural sector. In 2005 the government decided to close the state-owned Sugar Company, which saw losses that contributed to the fiscal deficit

The former sugar cane plantations still dominate the landscape in St. Kitts but many have been burned to make way for land development, especially on the northern side of the island in the parishes of St. John Cabester and Christchurch. The agricultural and tourism sector, the export industry and the external banking sectors are currently being developed and are now playing the largest roles in the country's economy. Tourism growth has become the main source of foreign exchange for Saint Kitts and Nevis. The country has also developed a successful clothing industry and one of the largest electronic assembly industries in the Caribbean

Economic growth is currently supported by new programs being developed to help improve communities in St. Kitts. By 2012 the Kittian Hill Development Project (also entering into citizenship by investment) will be the center point for improving the economy by leading many new community programs such as
A hospitality institute will train locals in the hospitality trade rather than importing foreign professionals
An agricultural extension program that would work with the local community to help farmers choose sustainable agricultural crops and technologies such as organic farming There will also be a regular Saturday market for farmers, allowing direct trading between guests and farmers
Computer and Internet programs that will eventually reach a laptop point for every child in the surrounding communities and help children to gain access to the Internet and the appropriate training to use them
A small business development program stimulates and encourages entrepreneurship in society and works to develop small businesses
