Botswana

Botswana / or the Republic of Botswana is a sub-Saharan country in Southern Africa. It is a former British protectorate known as the Pechwana Land and Botswana adopted its new name after its independence within the Commonwealth of Nations on September 30, 1966. It held free and fair democratic elections since independence. Geographically, the country is flat and mostly desert like Al-Hari

Botswana is one of the greatest development success stories in the world. The country is small and landlocked, inhabited by about 1.9 million people, and was one of the poorest countries in Africa with a GDP of $ 70 per capita on independence from Britain in 1966. In the four decades after independence, Botswana moved itself to middle-income classes to become one of The fastest growing economy in the world with an average annual growth rate of about 9%

Botswana has a proven track record in good governance and economic growth with the support of prudent macroeconomic financial management, which stands in contrast to the country's high levels of poverty and inequality and low human development indicators in general. While economic development in Botswana over the past forty years has improved the living standards of about two thirds of the population, the remaining one third has been left out of the wheel of economic growth

The country has an area of 600,370 km2 (231,804 sq mi), and thus Botswana is number 47 in the world by area (after Ukraine). Similar in size to Madagascar and slightly smaller than the US state of Texas or the Canadian province of Manitoba. Most of the country is flat and Botswana is dominated by the Kalahari desert, which covers up to 70% of its land area. Okavango Delta, the world's largest inland delta, is located in the northwest of the country. The marsh machadikgadi is a large salt marsh located in the north

The Limpopo River Basin, a major landmark in southern Africa, is partially located in Botswana in the southeast. The Chobe River is to the north and forms the border between Botswana and Namibia (Caprivi region). The Chobe River meets the Zambezi River in a place called Kazungula (meaning the little sausage tree, the point from which the Sibitwani led by the Sibitwani crossed the Zambezi River to Zambia)

Botswana possesses a wide variety of wildlife habitats. In addition to the delta and desert regions, there are savannah pastures where there is a blue wildbeast and many antelopes and other mammals and birds. North Botswana is one of the few places with a large number of endangered African wild dogs. The Chobe National Park is located in the Chobe area and has the largest concentration of African elephants in the world. The park covers about 11,000 km2 (4,247 sq mi) and supports about 350 species of birds

Chobe National Park and Morimi Center (in the Okavango Delta) are major tourist destinations. Other sanctuaries include the Central Karya in the Kalahari Desert in Gantzi Province, the national parks of the marsh Macgadikgadi and the marshes of Naxi in the central region of the Makgadikgadi Basin. Machao Reserve is a privately owned property located at the meeting point of the Limpopo and Shachi rivers in eastern Botswana. Another privately owned reserve is Mokolodi, near Gaborone. There are also specialized sanctuaries such as the Kama Reserve for Rhino and the Macgadiggady Flamingo Bird Reserve both in the central region

The share of education in gross domestic product is about 10%, and important educational achievements have been achieved, including the provision of free education for almost everyone. But the results of this spending have not created the skills and workforce that Botswana needs. Unemployment is high around 20%, and household income in rural areas is much lower than in urban areas, and despite the decline in poverty rates in rural areas, it remains very high in urban areas. As a result, income inequality in Botswana is one of the highest in the world. The HIV / AIDS epidemic has exacerbated the situation as the country has the second highest HIV prevalence among adults in the world, and education and health outcomes are lower than those of the same group of income
